These maneuvers are time-consuming and fraught with pitfalls, as rapid dissection through large retroperitoneal hematomas can lead to iatrogenic injuries in patients who can ill afford further uncontrolled hemorrhage. Abdominal vascular injuries are rarely isolated. In fact, multiple associated injuries are the rule rather than the exception, increasing not the severity, but also the time needed to repair many of these often critical associated injuries.It is clear that improved outcomes are generally the result of expedient and precise surgical interventions by trauma surgeons with extensive experience in the management of these injuries.
