Diese Monographie stellt ein leichtverständliches und effizientes System zur Computeranalyse der Morphologie und Syntax vor. Es ist auf alle natürlichen Sprachen anwendbar und ist in der Lage, Oberflächenstrukturen der Syntax zu erkennen. Bisher hat das System auf die Sprachen Finnisch, Schwedisch und Englisch Anwendung gefunden.§Das Buch beschreibt detailliert die englische Version dieses Systems, welches auf einem Lexikon von 56.000 Worten basiert und die Bestimmung von Oberflächenstrukturen - wie beispielsweise Substantive, Objekte, finite Hauptwörter, Bestimmungsworte oder adverbiale Bestimmungen - ermöglicht.§Das "English Constraint Grammar"-System wurde an mehrere tausend Wörter umfassenden, fortlaufenden Texten getestet, und findet bereits im Bereich der Lexikographie und beim Abruf von Informationen Anwendung. This study describes a comprehensive and efficient system for the morphological and syntactic analysis of natural languages by computers, and provides a system for expressing rules to determine the surface-syntactic structure of running text. The system is language-independent and it has been successfully applied to English, Finnish, and Swedish.§The book describes in detail how the English application was designed. It is based on a lexicon containing some 56.000 lexemes and enables a surface-syntactic analysis of words, i.e. it states which words are subjects, objects, finite main verbs, premodifiers, adverbials, etc.§The English Constraint Grammar system has been tested on ten of millions of words of running text, and it is already used in demanding practical applications in the domains of lexicography and information retrieval.§The analysis speed of the full system is presently some 400 words per second on efficient Unix computers.
