This agreement has the objective to phase outnuclear power plants and to replace nuclear power with anincreasing share of renewables, promoting energy efficiency andenergy saving. Sylke Hausmann investigates whether the scenario ofabandoning nuclear energy is a realistic, reasonable and feasibleaim. The question is put into the context of the current Germanenergy situation and relates to current political and geopoliticalissues, such as security of supply and Kyoto Protocol targets. Theauthor conducted interviews with German politicians of all majorparties, non-governmental organisations as well as Germanelectricity suppliers.
