If you ask first mate Casset, there's no better place in the world to live but on the Flying Phoenix. Sure, Captain Swift can be demanding, and the work on board never ends, but a pirate's life is air and sea and freedom, and Casset can imagine no other.
Casset's rather simple existence is interrupted by conflict between pirates and the islanders at the Phoenix's port of call, though he isn't aware of it at the time.
