Over ten percent of casualties in Vietnam were helicopter crew members. Most were door gunners who protected the helicopter, its crew and whatever they were transporting. The average lifespan of a gunner was only two weeks. John, an adrenaline junkie, beat those odds and did three tours in Vietnam.
