Having always been interested in writing and illustration, as well as historical fact and fiction, the creation of The Leaf Master was a natural progression for the author, who was twenty at the time of writing the book, after completing a media course in 1999 and moving from one job to the next, unfulfilled. The Leaf Master represents the culmination of Jamie Carruthers' creative endeavours.
