It is said that before us, dinosaurs were the largest and most dangerous creatures on this Earth. Then something happened that caused their species to disappear, just as we humans wipe out entire forests to build cities. Anyway, this habit of ours is not new; it is thousands, even millions of years old. It is the same pattern in which humans first invent something to make tasks easier. Then, when those inventions create problems, we invent something new to solve those problems. And this cycle has been continuing for a very long time.
Some people say it is not our fault; it was all set in motion long ago, when we perhaps did not even look like monkeys, but lived like them. Even though we may not have witnessed that time, two things have always enjoyed observing our Earth closely-the Sun during the day and the Moon at night. Perhaps they are the only two witnesses who have been watching this "live telecast" since the very beginning.
Spending time with the Sun and the Moon in this way, I keep discovering stories. Through this book, I am trying to share some of those stories-and the whimsical ways of the human mind-with you. I hope that through these stories, you will enjoy the journey of our Earth.
