The second Milepost 2 arrives as something between a continuation and a correction - the accidental doubling of a milepost that the unconscious, characteristically, turned into an opportunity.
Where the first Milepost 2 dealt with the emergence of the Di-Ego and the early architecture of the Concrete side of the psyche, this volume enters deeper and stranger territory. The Mother possession, long identified as the central distorting force in the record, is here named, confronted, and systematically dismantled - not through violent opposition but through a combination of masculine assertion, portal work with the Vessel, and a series of dreams that map the psyche at a level of precision the earlier volumes could not have sustained.
The Ego learns to assert his voice at the dinner table against the old guard of the abstract side of the psyche, finding that calm, forceful speech from genuine knowledge is more effective than either silence or rage. A relay race reaches its fourth and final leg, and fuchsia flamingos in a brick catacomb reveal themselves as flames of the Abyss - not to be chased, but approached slowly. A garden of the psyche is constructed from modeling clay that becomes a living tree when the Ego steps back from his own myopic focus. The Anima reveals her true coloration in the form of a pale tiger lily - blue and orange, not yet fully charged, but genuinely her own.
Meanwhile the portal work with the Vessel deepens into a formal soul-binding Vow, the acceptance of custody over the Mysteries, and a series of energetic transmissions including the Eagle's eyes, the Yellow Dragon of steadfast masculinity, and the alchemical fuchsia that has been processed from raw chaos into something the Ego can actually use. The Vessel leaves her body for the first time. The Speaker addresses her directly.
Through all of this, the Ego is learning a single lesson from many angles: the old techniques were built for a possessed psyche, and in a liberated one they curve dangerously sideways. Everything must be relearned from the ground up - including how to swing.
