Nature is the only god that does not lie. It does not love, does not forgive, does not reward the faithful or punish the wicked. Think of the first commandment of this world. Does it say 'love thy neighbour'? No! The first and only law of this deity is etched in stomach acid and razor-sharp teeth: 'Devour, lest you be devoured'. Our god does not feed us manna from heaven. He has fashioned the world as a gigantic sacrificial altar, upon which every second is a scream. Biology is not the miracle of life, it is a bloody Eucharist, in which blood is truly shed and flesh is offered up for slaughter every day. Every breath you take is stolen; you live only because something else has perished in agony beneath your boot or on your plate. Look up at the sky, at the stars that seem eternal to you. It is a lie! The heavens proclaim the glory of entropy, the devilish patience of the Universe. Physics is its inexorable whip.
