Two dogs. One garbage truck. Zero plans that actually work.
Biscuit the pug and Hank the bulldog were having a perfect nap. Then Biscuit's nose smelled something AMAZING - pizza crust, lo mein, the broken-off ends of donuts. The whole neighbourhood had wheeled out their garbage cans for the morning pickup. It was a one-night-only sale on leftovers.
Biscuit has a plan. Hank does not approve.
The Barker family has BOARDED UP the dog door after last time. So now they are climbing out the laundry-room window. Now they are bouncing over the fence on Owen's trampoline (BOING!). Now they are deep inside a garbage can full of treasures, fast asleep.
What they did NOT plan for is that the garbage truck comes at six.
When they wake up they are tipping into the back of a truck. They are sliding down a long metal chute. They are standing in a building the size of three barns, miles from home, looking at a bulldozer in the distance and a pile of trash bigger than their whole street.
Following the only familiar smell they can find - Mrs. Magnusson's bakery, all the way across town - Biscuit and Hank set out to walk home. They are tired. They are sore. They are extremely sticky. And Hank is carrying a very small white box of donut ends he refuses to let go of.
