Medicinal chemistry is the branch of science that provides the drugs either through discovery or through design. Besides this, medicinal chemistry also involves the isolation, characterization and synthesis of compounds that can be used in medicine for the prevention, treatment and cure of disease. Schiff bases can be prepared by the acid catalyzed reaction of amines and aldehydes or ketones. Since it was discovered by Schiff, the imines are often referred as bases. Heterocyclic chemistry is one of the most complex and intriguing branch of organic chemistry and heterocyclic compounds constitute the largest and most varied family of organic compounds. Many broader aspects of heterocyclic chemistry are recognized as disciplines of general significance that impinge on almost all aspects of modern organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry. The compounds carrying azomethine functional group -C=N- which are known as Schiff bases have gained importance in medicinal and pharmaceutical fields due to the most versatile organic synthetic intermediates and also showing a broad range of biological activities such as antituberculosis , anticancer, analgesic.
