Back cover copy: When Winnie Kepler trades in her recently earned business degree for a part-time gig slinging coffee at her grandmother Velma's diner, she quickly realizes her career choice may not have been the best recipe for success.
Everything changes, however, when a handsome rookie cop asks for a sandwich, only to be interrupted by a shocking radio call announcing Velma is suspected of murdering a fellow chef at the town fair's annual cooking competition. With a crotchety old police captain hell-bent on charging Velma with murder, Winnie drops her spatula to investigate. She soon learns that every competitor had a reason to kill the victim - and the rookie cop is single. Add to the stew of problems a surprise visit by an old college roommate and a constant reminder of Winnie's decision to abandon a career in business, time begins to run out quickly to save her grandma.
