On the cliffs above Crale stands the last lighthouse on a drowning coast. For three hundred years its keepers have sung the sea to sleep, twelve verses every dusk, so the towns beneath the water stay sleeping and the tide stays where it belongs.

Now the song has stopped. The last keeper is dead, the lamp is dark, and the water has begun to climb the streets, quiet and patient and wrong.
